New mechanisms of laser cooling of solid systems

The studies are concerned with new mechanisms of optical cooling of systems containing rare-earth ions (REIs), quantum wells and quantum dots in the field of high-intensity laser radiation. With the goal of accelerating laser cooling and increasing its efficiency, a number of mechanisms of cooling are used. Among these are tunneling of free charge carriers in heterostructures, Raman processes of pumping of media with REIs, and the processes of spitting electron energy levels in various solid system when exposed to high-intensity radiation pulses.
